Thierry Manoncourt, 92, the owner of legendary Château Figeac at Saint-Émilion (Bordeaux, France), has died some days ago. Manoncourt who had run Figeac since shortly after the last World War, was considered one of the most important and emblematic personalities of Bordelais' winegrowing.

Notwithstanding the fact that he had already left guidance of his Château to his son-in-law about twenty years ago, he had continued to take actively part in the life of Figeac, of the Appellation and of the entire Bordelais. We had the chance to meet Manoncourt twice or three times, the last time during an unforgettable visit at Figeac in the fall of 2001. The Grand Vin of Château Figeac was in good years one of the greatest Bordeaux, although it never achieved recognition as Premier Grand Cru Classé A.
