South Africa: Cape banks on wine tourism

0

South Africa's Cape Region will strengthen wine tourism as an important marketing tool for its wines. This is the result of a conference which was recently held in Cap Town. So far, possible synergies between wine and tourism had not yet been developed as organisation and institutional structures were missing - considering the decade-long discussion of the issue in other wine-growing countries this could seem a special form of organisational blindness.

In the future, tourists from all over the world but also from the cities in the north and the east of the country itself, wil be invited to hike through the vineyards or drive their offroad vehicles, and to visit wilderness parks or glassblowing facilities connected to the wineries.

Whether the massive investments into soccer tourism in a recent past - overall rather a failure, als we know today - have utterly retarded the development of such synergies, has apparently not been analyzed by the conference. Just as little is known as yet about the question which structures will be needed to guarantee them in the future.
