Our top wines             
 

Spectacular, this vintage! No other verdict could be given after three days of intensive tasting and talking at VieVinum, Austrias important, bi-annual wine show in June, although, like in the past, we were hardly able to taste more than a smaller part of the thousands of wines in exhibition. In order to give you a comprehensive picture of the country's wines we had limited our tastings to the white wine section, planning to organize another ample tasting of Austria's reds in the autumn. Once the show finished we asked all producers who's wines we had not been able to taste, to send us a small number of samples to Hamburg.

Together with number of tasting notes of wines which we had tasted in the months prior to the VieVinum, we are able to present close to 400 wines to you - as we see it, a fairly comprehensive picture of the country's white wine production.

The most enjoyable fact is that the average rating of this 2009 vintage is the highest since the start of our digital archiving. Why publish detailed results at all, if all the wines are so good?

It's probably in years like this one, when not only the top notch, but even lesser known "Weingüter" bring out excellent wines, that our work makes really sense. It's these vintages which allow you to find outstanding wines even in the cheaper ranges of a country's or region's production and put the consumer and the buyer in a stronger position than in years when they have to go begging for some small allocation of famous or even less famous wines.
